One of the truths about God that people struggle with, is the extent of control that He has over all things in this life, and the next. It’s a scary idea to know that God is in control of all things all at once, at any point in time, and there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s unnerving to people to consider that their “freedom” might not be what they think. We as people, cling to the idea that we can make our own choices and live our own lives. Yet the description of God as The LORD of Hosts presents a different idea. The scriptural presentation of God as Jehovah Sabaoth shows that God has the authority to do whatever He wants, whenever He wants, with whoever He wants, and the number of people has no effect on His control. The scriptures show that God exercises this control according to a very specific plan, so that His control enables the fulfillment of clearly detailed purposes of God. To ensure perfect fulfillment, God often reveals Himself as “the Angel of the LORD” to get the work done Himself, which often teaches people to fear God in new, unique ways. Thankfully, it’s the fear of the LORD that produces the beginning of wisdom, which goes to show that our understanding of these scary attributes of God, actually provide the wisdom we need to understand the goodness of His purposes and the power He shows to fulfill them. This study, we’ll examine these exact truths.
