Who Measures Up?
“Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can a man be more pure than his Maker? If He puts no trust in His servants, [if] He charges His angels with error, how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, [who] are crushed before a moth?”
God has proved Himself as perfect: whole, self-sufficient, satisfactory in every way, and without flaw. In contrast, the testimony of Job reminds us that we are made from dirt. We are merely clay in the hands of an Almighty Potter. This makes God the supreme authority, so that His standards are superior to all others. He gets to determine what is right and wrong, and since He is perfect, EVERYTHING He does is right! God has already judged angels that rebelled against Him in self-righteousness. We would be wise not to make the same mistake, doubting and questioning the truth of God’s perfect righteousness, as the source of all goodness.
