"I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy; I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the LORD."
The name of God as Jehovah Tsidkenu emphasizes one of the most important principles of the Bible. God is righteous. We are not. God’s righteousness, works in us to produce an effect that is motivated and manufactured by Him, in spite of us. God is the initiator. God’s relationship to Israel illustrates this truth. The remnant of Israel is God’s, because He connected Himself to them, like a husband connects to a wife. He offered the benefits of His perfection, by extending the proposal. It’s God’s faithfulness that makes the marriage work, just like it’s His faithfulness, mercy, patience, righteousness, and goodness that makes the rest of us, one with Him.
