Death And Life
Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed.
1 Peter 2:24
The goodness of the fruit on a tree, is based on the health of the branch that it’s attached to. The fruit doesn’t make itself good. Likewise, as Peter wrote, we don’t earn our way into heaven, gaining God’s approval, by what we do, or don’t do. We are the fruit of God’s own work. Jesus, the Branch of Righteousness, lived a perfect life as God in flesh, so that His death on the cross was sufficient to pay the price for all sin. So, our eternal life is due to the connection we have to Him by faith. We can be considered “good fruit” in God’s eyes, because Jesus healed our souls, enabling a connection to Him, so as to live in His likeness, not our nature.
