Getting To Know God
His Name Is...
The LORD Our Peace - The Prince Of Peace - The Just Judge - The Praise Of God - The Perfection Of God
No Fear, No Death
Now Gideon perceived that He [was] the Angel of the LORD. So Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord GOD! For I have seen the Angel of the LORD face to face.” Then the LORD said to him, “Peace [be] with you; do not fear, you shall not die.” So Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it The-LORD-[Is]-Peace. To this day it [is] still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
God’s promise to Gideon caused him to refer to God as Jehovah Shalom - the Lord Is Peace. God promised to remove fear and death from His people to equip them to praise His name. Israel was tormented by surrounding nations, but God promised deliverance. Israel’s peace would come through the judgment of their enemies, enabling Israel to live without concern of threats. God revealed Himself as the Angel of the Lord to assure Gideon that He would exercise His power as God to judge those who prohibit the fulfillment of His promises, restricting the praises of His people. This is how God’s peace comes, thereby motivating our praise.
