Getting To Know God
His Name Is...
The LORD Our Peace - The Prince Of Peace - The Just Judge - The Praise Of God - The Perfection Of God
A Passion For Peace
“Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the children of Israel, because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My zeal. Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace; and it shall be to him and his descendants after him a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.’”
One of the difficult issues about God’s peace is the manner in which it comes. God’s peace is superior because it’s pure. Our world is not pure. God must remove impurity to give peace. Israel offended God by worshiping idols. He judged them with a great plague, killing twenty-four thousand people. Still, the people were indifferent to their sin. Having zeal for God’s holiness, Phinehas killed a man and woman that were smug about God’s judgments. God was pleased with Phinehas because he did what needed to be done to remove corruption. The standard was made clear: God’s peace comes through the judgment that corrupts His holiness.
