Getting To Know God
His Name Is...
The LORD Of Hosts - The ANGEL Of The LORD - The Fear Of God - The Providential Sovereignty Of God
The Commander In Chief
So He said, "No, but [as] Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant?"
A commander is the chief authority over military troops. When Joshua prepared to lead Israel into the Promised Land to overtake it, he was visited by “The Commander of the army of the LORD.” This is another Old Testament manifestation of Jesus Christ: A visible human figure, that has the supreme control, authority, wisdom, and power of God; able to receive worship from His people. This description is parallel to His identity as “the LORD of hosts.” The Israelites conquered the Canaanites according to God’s promise, because Jesus went before them to give victory, showing that He has control over His people, AND His enemies.
