Getting To Know God
His Name Is...
The LORD Of Hosts - The ANGEL Of The LORD - The Fear Of God - The Providential Sovereignty Of God
Fear Of The LORD
Then the Angel of the LORD put out the end of the staff that [was] in His hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened bread; and fire rose out of the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. And the Angel of the LORD departed out of his sight. Now Gideon perceived that He [was] the Angel of the LORD. So Gideon said, "Alas, O Lord GOD! For I have seen the Angel of the LORD face to face."
Those who came in contact with “the Angel of the Lord,” all responded the same way – with fear! Gideon was visited by the Angel. With the authority of the LORD of hosts, the Angel commanded Gideon to assemble a small army. He was going to be a tool of God’s deliverance. Gideon was afraid at first, so asked the Angel for assurance. The manner in which He received Gideon’s sacrifice scared Gideon even more, but unto obedience. Gideon saw that the Angel had the supreme authority of God to give commands; to receive sacrifices as a consuming fire; had control in this world to appear and vanish at will. Gideon knew He had seen God, and was afraid – and rightly so!
