Yoking The Nations
“For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him. I have given him the beasts of the field also.’”
When we look at the history of world empires, it’s important to consider how these empires came to power and influence – the LORD of hosts. Many of these empires amassed great power by military strategies and resources, but God oversaw it all. The ancient Babylonian empire came into power, because God caused the nations they conquered to be bound by “a yoke of iron.” God enabled Babylon to be great because He was going to use them as His tool for great discipline. God is able to determine who submits to who, proving that all are really in submission to Him. Should we fear those with the appearance of power, or God, who has superior control?
