Control In Captivity
Therefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze [fetters], and carried him off to Babylon. Now when he was in affliction, he implored the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD [was] God.
2 Chronicles 33:11-13
It’s a terrifying thing to see the extent of God’s control. Being in control of all things, He is able to do ALL things! It’s comforting to know that He uses His sovereignty and providence for good. Manasseh was an evil king of Judah, destined for condemnation in hell. God exercised His control over armies, to provoke the Assyrians to attack Judah. He also equipped the enemy Assyrians to win, taking Manasseh captive. However, it was in that captivity, that Manasseh learned to fear God, and humbled himself before God unto repentance and salvation! God’s control allows Him to use objects of evil, to produce good, through fear, for our spiritual benefit.
