Getting To Know God
His Name Is...
The LORD Our Shepherd - The Door - The Mercy Of God - The Goodness Of God's Suffering
The Shepherd Seeks
For thus says the Lord GOD: “Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My sheep and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day.”
The goodness and mercy of God is clear to see when examining His work through the role of a shepherd. God calls His people sheep, expressing our pitiful and helpless nature. The prophet Ezekiel wrote that, though God is the Creator of all, He is the initiator of our contact with Him. As our Shepherd, God seeks us out, not the other way around. God knows we’re scattered, but according to His mercy, exercises His power and wisdom to gather us – especially the faithful remnant of Israel – unto the door of His pasture. Our depravity causes us to be scattered in darkness, but God endures the suffering that is required to bring us to the light!
