The Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”

John 10:11

The Bible teaches that Jesus is “the Good Shepherd.” The Bible also teaches that Israel had many shepherds. What makes Jesus “good” compared to the others? According to scripture, Jesus is good as the Shepherd of Israel, because He gave His life for His sheep. Though we like sheep have gone astray, and deserve to pay the consequences for it, Jesus suffered that consequence on our behalf! As stray sheep, we shouldn’t have life, provision, protection, or promise. It’s because of Jesus’ righteousness that we’re able to gain access to those benefits. No one else can lead and provide that way. This is why Jesus alone is good, as God in flesh.
