Strike The Shepherd
“Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, against the Man who is My Companion,” Says the LORD of hosts. “Strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; then I will turn My hand against the little ones.”
Zechariah 13:7
God’s promises come on behalf of His own suffering. The pinnacle of God’s suffering was displayed on the cross. There, God in flesh was beaten, mocked, shamed, and murdered through the torturous crucifixion. The prophet Zechariah predicted this suffering, and the fruit of its work. The “sword” that was swung against “the Shepherd,” speaks of the death of Israel’s Messiah, the “Companion,” or Son of God. The Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, was indeed struck unto His death. His sheep, the disciples, were indeed scattered at that time. It was the suffering God endured, that manifested His mercy to forgive sins, thereby granting access into His goodness.
