Dividing Sheep From Goats

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides [his] sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.”

Matthew 25:31-33

One of the characteristics of God as “the Shepherd,” is the authority He has to judge. Jesus taught that this is a critical attribute He alone has, which enables His sheep to enjoy the benefits of His goodness and glory. Jesus promised that He will return to the world again with all of His angels. When He does so, He will judge the earth, destroying those who reject Him, purging the world of corruption before He administers His blessings. Jesus referred to this as, “diving sheep from goats.” As the One True Shepherd, Jesus knows who His true sheep are. He will judge by separating His true sheep from “goats,” who receive the full brunt of His judgment.
