Getting To Know God
Jehovah Ra`ah - The Door To Mercy & Goodness
The LORD Our Shepherd - The Door - The Mercy Of God - The Goodness Of God's Suffering
Cause To Give Thanks
Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for [He is] good! For His mercy [endures] forever. And say, “Save us, O God of our salvation; gather us together, and deliver us from the Gentiles, to give thanks to Your holy name, to triumph in Your praise.”
1 Chronicles 16:34-35
God’s identity as “the LORD Our Shepherd” describes the temperament God displays as Savior. God can save people from hellfire in a number of ways, but prefers to act gently and mercifully with His people. In 1 Chronicles 16, David praised God for the manner in which He delivers His people. David confessed that God alone is good. He’s eternally merciful, meaning that God restrains judgment for as long as it takes to ensure His people are spiritually preserved. He gathers His congregation to ensure all of His sheep receive the benefits of His promises. Since He is the cause of goodness and life, He alone is worthy of praise and thanks!
