Separated From Defilement
“They shall not take a wife [who is] a harlot or a defiled woman, nor shall they take a woman divorced from her husband; for [the priest] is holy to his God. Therefore you shall consecrate him, for he offers the bread of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I the LORD, who sanctify you, [am] holy.”
When God gave the Law to Israel, He told His priests to “be holy” like He was. One way to express that holiness was through their marriages. In the eyes of God, a husband and wife are one. The priests were to be holy, by living separate from that which God declared unclean. They weren’t to become one with that which was contrary to God. The priests failed. Thankfully, God provided The One True Great High Priest – Jesus Christ. He is the One who lived totally separate from all sin. The Son was just as holy as the Father. For this reason, He alone is able to keep us from being one with sin, equipping us for the service He desires from us.
