Separated For Cleansing
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the LORD will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.”
God’s original aim was to dwell with His people in perfect fellowship. Sin wrecked our relationship, but God already had a plan. God’s orders to Moses show how His plan works. To dwell with God, we must be consecrated - cleansed for holy purposes. We must be divided from sin and anything offensive to God. God swore that He would visit His people at Mount Sinai. In order for them to endure His presence and live, they had to be cleaned. The standard was set: To dwell with God, we must be cleansed and separated from sin. God is the One who sanctifies, so we must trust Him to provide the cleansing we need, lest we die when He comes.
