Anchor Of The Soul
This [hope] we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the [Presence] behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, [even] Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 6:19-20

An anchor is a simple tool that provides a substantial benefit. It is a hunk of metal that keeps a ship from drifting into undesirable places. This is the role Jesus plays for those who believe. He provides immeasurable goodness by keeping our souls from drifting into darkness. By His holiness we have access to the glory of the Father, where sin once kept us separated. By His righteous sacrifice, our debt has been paid so that we can be connected to God’s goodness. Like Melchizedek did for Abraham, Jesus enables us to praise God for the peace we receive from Him. If not for Jesus, our souls would drift into the dark waters of death.
