Salt & Pepper
A close up macro shot of salt & pepper like this takes on a whole new characteristic!
Perhaps one of the most profound declarations of love in the Bible is found in John Chapter 17, where Jesus prayed in the garden before giving Himself up to the cross, showing what real love is all about. When Jesus prayed to the Father, His complicated explanation of love could be summarized and simplified where He said:
“Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” – John 17:24
Just before that statement, Jesus explained that His desire was that His people become one with Him, as He is with the Father, thereby enabling His people, who are sinners by nature, to be in the midst of His glory, basking in pleasures forevermore.
When talking about the desire of the LORD to unify Himself with us as “love,” we thought of salt and pepper. As culinary staples, salt and pepper are paired together in more dishes than anyone can count. Whether serving breakfast, lunch, or dinner, salt and pepper are showing up on the plate as a couple; and are found at nearly every restaurant table on the planet.
Here, we have various forms of salt and pepper: pink sea salt, white sea salt, kosher salt, black ground pepper, raw pepper corns, and ground white pepper. When mixed together, they not only provide fundamentally great flavor for most dishes, but look absolutely beautiful under the macro lens. The colors and textures of salt and pepper pictured here, shows such a complex and dynamic relationship between the two, which is pretty emblematic of the relationship the LORD says He wants to have with us!
