The Goodness Of Mercy

For the king trusts in the LORD, and through the mercy of the Most High he shall not be moved.

Psalm 21:7

The Bible describes God’s goodness in a variety of ways. One of the most common references to God’s goodness is in His mercy. God’s goodness is primarily expressed through His mercy. Scripture shows that God’s mercy is not only expressed to keep the human race from immediately suffering the full punishment we deserve, but God’s mercy is also the means by which we learn to trust the Lord. King David acknowledged that God’s mercy was so great that it was the means by which his own faith was developed. God’s mercy doesn’t just keep us from danger, but it is transcendent to the extent that we are built up in faith by it, unto peace.
